More inspiration. This short minute-and-a-half video has been online for a couple years, but I find myself coming back to it all to often. Maybe it's because I really want an M9. But I think it lays out just how connected the camera, your eye, and your heart are to the world...it's actually a very beautiful thing when you really think about it. Makes me want to get out and be creative. Anyway, check it out if you have 90 seconds.

SYLVIE'S BIRTHDAY EXTRAVAGANZA...AND MORE!
My girl is one! Before Amanda and I know it, she's going to be driving a car, asking for money, and wanting to stay out past her curfew. Wait wait wait, just hold on a second. She's one. Settle the f**k down!
It all started last Tuesday, January 18th when we showered Sylvie with presents early in the morning...I think she got what was happening...I think. From there, the circus came to town...Lee, Michael, Dakota, Shiloh, Susan, Don, Alan, and Melissa...it was messy and chaotic - in the best of ways, all of us together having fun just enjoying. We got to celebrate my sister Melissa's birthday as well Friday night at Maggiano's. The food just kept on coming and never stopped. Saturday was the party at Gymboree in Sherman Oaks - honestly it was the only place to be for all you insider Hollywood types. If you weren't on the list, you didn't get in...and no plus ones! The party didn't stop there. After party at Casa del Calof in WeHo, opening presents and eating left over Maggiano's and Cuvee from earlier that afternoon. And of course birthday cake. Sunday was breakfast at Jerry's Deli...total shit show, took 45 mins to get food, and then off to the park between San Vincente and Robertson - brothas trash talking on the basketball court, homeless people on the sidewalk, and a birthday party at the center of all of it... just another day in West Hollywood if I might say.
It was an unbelievable weekend. Amanda and I were so happy that our family made the long trek to California. It was perfect.
I leave you with a few pics from over the weekend. Shots on the D3, D300s and even my camera phone. Let's see if you can distinguish the difference. And yes, I took the final picture...it's called magic!

IT'S MY DAY...BETTER GET OUT THE WAY!
Happy early birthday Ms. Sylvie Rain Calof. 365 days ago you were brought in to this world. Your mother and I love you very much. We do it all for you kid, and we love it! Don't ever change. And most importantly, happy birthday to my grandmother Sophie Teener who turns 95 tomorrow too. She and Syl share the same b-day. All our love from California, Amanda, Andrew & Sylvie. We love you!
I love this picture...she's definitely looking at me like I'm crazy and I'm sure she's thinking to herself, "Daddy, you have no idea what you got your self in to...just you wait until I can talk...then we are going to have some fun."

HOLIDAY'S 2010
All rght. I'm going to keep this short and sweet. In my opinion, the scope of these pics feel small but the breath of the trip was much more. We came, we saw, we played, we relaxed, we froze, we crushed, we left our stamp, and got back to reality...it was too short though, it always is. All around, it was a wonderful trip to see friends and family this past holiday season. Strangely, it already feels like a year had gone by. Had some fun at Mrs. T's house (aka Bubby Sophie) using the mirror in her bedroom to capture a few frames. Definitely feel like I showed a different perspective of our family. It was a fun little experiment. Enjoy.

INSPIRATION
I'll keep it short and sweet. After a long day at work and still much ahead of me as I got home tonight, I was fortunate to cross paths with this breath of fresh air, short documentary at 1am. What in the fubar am I doing up right now! Anyway, as a photographer its always nice to get that inside look into how others do it, what they do, where they roll, how they shoot, what they shoot, etc and hopefully it jiggers that inspiration light bulb deep inside.
This is a really cool piece that I hope inspires the observer in all of us. Enjoy.

GOODBYE 2010, HELLO 2011!
Hands down the greatest year of my life. To kick it off, little Sylvie Rain came into this world last January 18 and it's hard to believe just how fast time flys - it's literally been a whirlwind...but a great one! It feels like I've only known life with Sylvie - a great feeling. I made a movie. It did well at the box office (lucky me), finishing up another one (fingers crossed), in the middle of a picture shooting, and a bunch on the front burner ready to go, Sylvie's Baby Blessing, trips to Ojai and Wine Country, Toronto Film Festival, Hawaii, and home for the holidays. Wait..I must be forgetting something?
To think back at all the highs and lows that happened over this past year, it's actually hard to figure out what to talk about because so much happened. Though I know I'm a better man because of those experiences. My all time favorite though was being with Amanda at the hospital when we welcomed our daughter into the world.
So what to hope for in 2011? I want to smile more, laugh more than I have ever laughed before in my life, and just enjoy it damn it! I'm a worrier...I have to do less of that...it all works out in the end, right? I want to hug and kiss Amanda and Sylvie more, find the time to call my sister at least once a week because she deserves it, give Susu more than the twelve minutes I give her on the ride home, visit Chicago to see my niece and nephew, excel at work, buy something that I love for Paramount, take pictures, lots of pictures, get back in to maintaining my website, see movies, go shopping with my father in law, volunteer, do something nice for a complete stranger, make sure Glenda and Rodrigo are taken care of, and see my father as well as make sure he sees Sylvie more. And I'm sure I'll think of a few more...
It wouldn't be an end of the year blog if I didn't include my favorite photos. I'm guessing over the course of the year I snapped 10,000 photos of Sylvie. My dad likes to tell me "take a few pictures?" when I send him my albums through Kodak. Well, again, it was a special year. So as for my year's best, there may be a few more than normal. It was tough to narrow it down, but as the Doc said in Back to the Future, "ahhh, what the he'll!"
To everyone who reads me (well...only a few of you, right?), I hope you had an amazing 2010, and that 2011 brings you much love, happiness, and success. Make it a good one.
